why: um, because its july 4th
so its only 1pm here and erin and i have been pretty lazy today. we are off to have tea and do a bit of shopping today until drew gets off work and we engage in a little celebration of our emancipation from the brits. should be good times.
just wanted to give a quick update about the transit to england before i have to go dry my hair...
my flight from dublin to london was delayed by over an hour due to bad weather. not so much of a shock so i spent quite a bit of time sitting around dublin airport trying to figure out how to spend the last of my euros which are worthless in england. safe to say i bought a lot of food just to get rid of it.
anyway, as mentioned, ti was a pretty nasty day in dublin in terms of weather but niall and i did get out walking around a bit and we walked down to near the port to see some statues adn then back up to christchurch.
i know its been pointed out that i have seemed to be a bit annoyed with him. i dont mean to sound mean and horrible about it. he has been such a fantastic host putting me up for a few days in his place and showing me around and such and i am super grateful for that. its been great. at the same time though, im just not used to having someone fawning over me 24/7 and that can grate on me a bit. you know how i am about liking to be on my own and have my own time and stuff and i know me meant well. i was also feeling incredibly bad that he kept paying for things even after i repeatedly told him that he didnt need to and that he shouldnt. that did bother me a lot because it was unnecessary and way more than he should have done to begin with but i guess thats just him trying to be hospitable. so, i didnt mean to seem bratty about it when he was only trying to be nice, but it just sort of grated on me when i would ask him to not do something and he would basically ignore it. ah well... over and done with and a fun little trip none the less.
the only thing of note realy about the flight over to london was that the irish equivalent of the TSA agent who scanned my bag stole my scissors. she was like you cant have scissors on a plan and i told her that ive been through 3 other security checkpoints that didnt have a problem with it (they were miniature nail scissors in a manicure set) and she was like i dont care you cant ahve scissors on a plan. i was about to tell her that i was hardly goign to hijack a plan with a pair of toe nail scissors with a half inch blade but i just gave them to her and left it at that. funnily enough, she was totally unconcerned with my pointy metal nail rasp.
anyway, got into heathrow and didnt have to immigrate again since i guess thats what i did on sunday. i must have gotten a multiple entry visa or something which i guess makes sense. caught the express bus up to oxford and was all set. erin and drew were out at a pub for a good bye happy hour (joe sebranek was moving back to the cinci office for those of you who know him) and so lots of people were out. i got to meet a lot of the great bases oxford crew and we had a fun time toting my suitcase around the pub. i was also introduced to the wonders of the mobile kebab stands which are fantastic post pub options. essentially its the english equivalent of a trip to the waffle house on the way home from a night of drinking.
all and all it was a great intro to the city and the people. drew had to work today but as i said, erin adn i are off for tea and to go check out some shops we saw on the walk last night. they have this gorgeous little row house with a sunroom and a nice little garden for cassidy (the husky... who was also my snuggle buddy last night). i find is as strange as erin does that they dont ahve yards here... just little long "gardens" ill try to take some pictures of it so you can get a good idea at some point. i really love their place and my room is super comfortable and i have the husky to keep me company for the night lol.
anyway, off to finish getting ready and then to explore the town. im so excited to be here with
erin and drew! ive missed them while they are here, but i can easily see why they dont want to move back to teh states... i wouldnt want to either if i had their set up. seriously, i cant explain it, but i LOVE england. which makes sense because im here for a 3rd time...
